And, most women will just be happy to have home birth as an option! A center by me has the women start circulating after 30 weeks to the various providers. The women almost always choose that practice over larger Ob practices because they rather receive the depth of care provided by midwives than the alternative. Good luck with completing your program!Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08340768270763902057noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2750779945480533515.post-2570836481557417582008-12-07T07:53:00.000-08:002008-12-07T07:53:00.000-08:00Many women in my family have had midwives deliver ...Many women in my family have had midwives deliver their babies and they've had such great experiences-- but as the daughter of a doctor who's missed many birthdays, I know what you mean about needing to be able to enjoy life. I hope you find a good balance- and as a woman who plans to birth with a midwife in the (distant!!) future, I think I would be comfortable with the solution you mentioned. Good luck! :)bekahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15362619565392680707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2750779945480533515.post-5360541536762258112008-12-04T11:57:00.000-08:002008-12-04T11:57:00.000-08:00I am currently on the path to becoming and doula a...I am currently on the path to becoming and doula and eventually a midwife. Even now I think about how to balance the demands of the profession with my desires and need for self care.
My partner is supportive and like you I am not trying to center my life around them. But being in and maintaining a relationship also requires work, energy, and the occasional long night.
Thanks for the post. Are you in school to be a midwife or already practicing?Kimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05908883058817938205noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2750779945480533515.post-9645116049826690742008-12-04T06:37:00.000-08:002008-12-04T06:37:00.000-08:00Way too intriguing. And as the person on the other side of things, yeah, it sucks sometimes, but mostly I love and feel so lucky about how I found someone so committed to birth and babies and helping. We do go out of town when her clients are in the early stages of pregnancy, but I realize how that might change later. Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is the partners know what we're getting into when we marry midwives-to-be, so even if it's hard sometimes, we understand the choices you've made.

Also, may I say brava to you for choosing this path!V.
