I am very tempted to ask my flower girl to wear this giant flower headband with her dress. But is the giant flower a little too Sex and the City, Carrie, for a seven year old?

Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes

My wedding outfit is random. It's very me (eclectic, kind of vintage, kind of country, a little bit classic). But it is unarguably random.

Starting from the top, I haven't quite decided if I want to stick a birdcage veil on this, but I made myself a fascinator to wear in my hair.
To play into my love of vintage, I wanted to wear pearls with my dress. After trying on a few "normal" strands of pearls, I decided they weren't quite what I was looking for. I wanted something more dangley to work with the v-cut of the front of my dress. So while browsing around etsy last night I found (and bought) this:

I absolutely love it. I love the pearls. I love the scientific , realistic silver shell. And I love that it can either be worn with the rough side out or with this, more posh side:I think I'm going to skip out on the bra with the dress. It doesn't really need it, but I want to get some cute vintage styled underwear, maybe a garter belt (though there will be no garter or garter toss). And I'll be wearing my self-dyed yellow crinoline (which I have yet to take pictures of).

And then on my feet I'll be wearing these babies. They are practical. I know I'll wear them for years after the wedding. They are pretty comfortable (though they need to be broken in a bit. And they've got my something blue hidden inside.

Recipe for Love

I bought a gocco months ago in anticipation of making my own wedding invitations. I quickly learned that goccoing on fabric, probably isn't the best first project. It ended up working, but not as well as I wanted it to, and in a smudgy, abstract kind of way. So I've been intimidated by the evil orange machine for months now, and have avoided eye contact with it as it's been sitting in the corner of the living room. But realizing that at some point I will need to actually print the invites, and that I should probably do another test project before then, I'd been brainstorming ideas.

And then I was digging around in my cookbooks the other day and inspiration hit! And it took care of two things...1) It's gocco'd. and 2) It is a guest book of sorts!


The idea is that people will take a blank recipe card out of one of the recipe boxes, write something silly/thoughtful on it, and stick it in the other box. Then we'll have a recipe box full of love. I think I'm going to need signage at the wedding to explain this since some may not get it, but my friends have been positive about it so far.
I love them, they were very quick to print (80 cards took about an hour including gocco prep time), and my crazy font that I was worried about printing on the invites turned out really well.

Groomsmen

While finding brideswomen dresses had it's ups and downs, it took my other half and I about a half hour to decide what we'd like the grooms guys to wear.

Before we were even officially engaged I suggested (begged) him to consider wearing suspenders for our wedding. I loves me some suspenders. So cute, classic, sexy, etc.

So when my mom requested that I ask my dad to wear suspenders to the wedding (we are eerily similar, but I've come to terms with it), I figured, what the hell. They can all wear 'em!

Since we weren't planning on making them rent tux's or anything that fancy anyway, the suspenders fit with our dressed-up, funky, casual vibe.

So the menfolk will be wearing something like this:

Except instead of jeans, we are having them buy these brown pinstripe pants:

Since it should be warm the night of our wedding (and by warm we are talking 80s or 90s) I doubt they will miss having jackets. No jackets also means that I don't have to make boutonnieres for all the groomsmen in our DIY wedding flower-making extravaganza. Everyone wins!

Flowergirl inspiration

My flowergirl, like my bridesmaids, basically picked herself. I have assertive friends and family! She's the daughter of my cousin (so my second cousin? cousin once-removed?), she's 6, and she loves being a flower girl. Actually, at the request of her mom, she doesn't even know yet, as her mom didn't want her talking about it and tearing up all the plants in their yard for months as practice.

My sisters and I adore her (and her brother, who will be my ring bearer) and spent some time over the weekend thinking about how I should dress her up for the wedding.
